Our Story
Why Citizens?
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, — Ephesians 2:19-20
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, — Philippians 3:20
The name ‘Citizens’ comes from a few Scriptures that communicate the identity God’s people have been given. The Bible describes the people of God as those who were once outsiders but have been brought near—made citizens of a better kingdom and members of God’s household. It’s a blessing God’s people receive by grace and have shared for two millennia with Christ Himself as the cornerstone.
Citizens Church was planted to give Wentzville a taste of this kingdom—a people who belong to Jesus and to one another.

What We Believe
The Gospel is the story of Scripture in one word: God rescuing, reconciling, and restoring sinners through Jesus Christ. It’s not just the entry point into the Christian life—it shapes God’s people, individually and together. At Citizens, we rest in the finished work of Christ because it saves us into God’s family, brings glory to Him, and delivers us from His wrath.
We weren’t just saved from something, we were saved into something: the family of God (Eph. 2:19). Scripture says, “...we were not a people, but now we are God’s people…” (1 Pet. 2:10) At Citizens, we embrace life’s messiness and the “one another” statements (Col. 3:16, Eph. 4:2) because the gospel binds us to one another as God’s apologetic to the world (John 13:34-35).
Spiritual Formation is the ongoing work of God’s Spirit to shape us into Christ’s image. While it is His work, believers are invited to actively cooperate by embracing their new life in Christ (Jn. 10:10, Phil. 2:12-13, Col. 3:5). At Citizens, we encourage one another to live the gospel, remembering it calls us to glorify Him in all we do (Ps. 23:3, 143:11, Isa 48:11).
Jesus came “to seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) His finished work saves us from our sin and its consequences – God’s wrath. God blesses His people so they may be a blessing and an ambassador of this message (Gen. 12:2–3; Matt. 5:14–16, 2 Cor. 5:17–20). At Citizens, we join Jesus’ mission in sharing this good news—wherever He sends us, from our neighborhoods to the nations.
Gather
Ways We Gather
Personal, daily communion with God through prayer, Scripture, and solitude. The foundation of everything we do is a soul that abides in Christ and bears fruit through that connection.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." — John 15:5
Small groups of 2–4 people committed to spiritual accountability, Bible memorization, and fighting sin together. Iron sharpens iron — we don't run this race alone.
"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." — Proverbs 27:17
The household — marriage, family, and close relationships — is the primary context for discipleship. We equip parents to lead their children and spouses to serve each other in the gospel.
"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4
CityFamily is our mid-size gathering — think extended family around a table. We eat together, study together, and share life. This is where strangers become brothers and sisters.
"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." — Acts 2:42
The weekly gathering of the whole church for worship, the Word, prayer, and the Lord's Table. We gather to be sent — equipped by the gospel to scatter as missionaries throughout the week.
"Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." — Hebrews 10:25
FAQs
Do we currently practice all of these ways to Gather?
No, the pattern we see in the New Testament for Church Plants was unique. That is, in the Book of Acts we see new churches were established because the disciples Engaged the City (Acts 11:19), Made Disciples (Acts 11:21), then they Planted a Church (Acts 11:26). As a Church Plant, we want to do our best to not put the cart before the horse. We anticipate to launch all of these ways we gather as the year goes on!
Who can join a CityFamily?
Anyone, our CityFamilies are full of people with different backgrounds and seasons of life! In joining a CityFamily we simply ask that you come with an open heart to understand and apply God’s truth found in the Scriptures!

What is an Intentional Discipleship (ID) Group?
ID Groups are the most intimate expression of our church, and they exist for discipleship. These are micro groups of 2-5 individuals of the same gender. Because of the uniquely intimate nature of these groups, there is no sign-up. Find somebody you love and trust in our church, and ask them if they have an ID-group.
What is the goal of Intentional Discipleship (ID) Groups? Is it a Bible Study or Accountability?
Both! ID-Groups are committed to spiritual flourishing and formation. Whether it is helping you learn the Bible, considering how to grow, or being sharpened by a brother or sister in Christ, the hope is to fight for one another’s joy, seek the Lord and live a holy life.
Is an Intentional Discipleship (ID) Group supposed to multiply or stay together?
It depends on the goal you set as a group! Some meet for a specific amount of time, and then share it with others. Some desire to develop deeper relationships over time. Just ensure everyone knows the goal in the group!
Should there be a leader/organizer for an Intentional Discipleship (ID) Group?
While everyone is going to benefit from being in an ID-Group, it may be helpful to designate someone as the group organizer – the person making sure you meet regularly, and who can help guide conversations. But… we strongly recommend sharing leadership of the discussion. This way it keeps anyone from getting too bogged down, and it gives everyone an opportunity to grow in guiding spiritual conversations.
