GOSPEL

The gospel is the story of Scripture in one word: God rescuing, reconciling, and restoring sinners through Jesus. However, the gospel is not just the entry point into heaven—it is the fuel that empowers the Christian’s daily life. At Citizens, we embrace a gospel centrality in everything. You’re going to hear the story of Jesus repeatedly because the gospel is why we exist!

COMMUNITY

We weren’t just saved from something, we were saved into something: the family of God. Scripture says, “…we were not a people, but now we are God’s people…” (1 Pet. 2:10) At Citizens, we embrace life’s messiness and the “one another” statements (Col. 3:16, Eph. 4:2) as a regular practice because the gospel binds us together as God’s apologetic to the world (John 13:34-35).

FORMATION

Spiritual Formation is God’s ongoing work to shape His people into Christ’s image. While it is primarily the Spirit’s work, believers are invited to actively cooperate by embracing their new life in Christ (Jn. 10:10, Phil. 2:12-13, Col. 3:5). At Citizens, we encourage everyone to come as they are with an expectation that God is relentless in His transformative work. We challenge one another in the gospel as a vehicle to glorify God in all we do (Ps. 23:3, Isa 48:11).

Jesus came “to seek and save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) While His finished work saves us from our sin and its consequences, the Scriptures convey that God saves His people to then be an ambassador of God’s goodness (Gen. 12:2–3; Matt. 5:14–16, Mar. 1:17, 2 Cor. 5:17–20). At Citizens, we join Jesus’ mission in showing and sharing His good news (the gospel)—wherever He sends us, from our neighborhoods to the nations.
